Living in Ankeveen?
Ankeveen is situated by the Ankeveense Plassen, noted for beautiful ice skating trips in winter. Ankeveen is part of the municipality of Wijdemeren. During Carnival, the village is nicknamed Schuimlikkerveen (“Foam lickers moor”). The number of inhabitants of Ankeveen is approximately 1,550.
The Ankeveense Plassen, originally created by excavation of peat, are owned by Natuurmonumenten, an organization for nature protection. The lake is not open for recreational boating, because many rare plant and animal species live in and around the lake. Ankeveen is a lively village. In addition to the annual carnival celebrations, many exhibitions, theatre shows, music performances and other gatherings are organised in the former church.
Since 2002 Ankeveen is part, together with Loosdrecht, 's-Graveland and Kortenhoef, of the municipality of Wijdemeren.
