's-Graveland
Living in 's-Graveland
's-Graveland was established as a settlement after the de-industrialisation and sand excavation had created plots on which farms were built. The number of inhabitants of 's-Graveland is approximately 1,319.
The underground water courses near 's-Graveland have always provided an ample supply of clean water. For this reason many bleachers and laundries were established in the village. ‘S-Graveland became the place where much of the laundry from Amsterdam was done. The townscape of 's-Graveland is protected and car-free. In and around 's-Graveland several 'country estates' can be found, where prosperous Amsterdam merchants used to spend cool summers in the Golden Age.
Together with Loosdrecht, Kortenhoef and Ankeveen, s-Graveland has formed the municipality of Wijdemeren since 2002.
